Structural Designer (Folded Cartons)

Department: Technical Services
Location: De Pere, WI

Summary

Support the sales process by assisting customers with the selection of product offerings and creation of a structural design file, to meet specific needs. Must be able to explain the various substrate and finish options, as well as aesthetic and functional features, to all external and internal customers. May be required to modify an existing product to meet a specific application or aesthetic, replicate an existing design with modifications required for production, or come up with a complete creative design using only a customer supplied product sample for size reference. Able to juggle multiple projects at once, while staying organized, and respond to all requests in a friendly and timely manner.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead Sales team and customers in defining end-use requirements.
  • Establish the size, shape, design and tooling specifications for new opportunities. To include: identifying material, finish, carton structure and die specifications.
  • Perform competitive analyses of customer supplied samples to recommend best material and finish options that meet customer requirements.
  • Responsible for understanding customer’s setup equipment.
  • Establish best manufacturing processes to most efficiently use internal capabilities to meet customer requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with Production Management and Production Admin to ensure accurate information is passed to the Estimating team for proper quoting.
  • Process and manage the daily project flow with accuracy, speed and service.
  • Support standardization of materials and processes to service our customers.
  • Support quality improvement efforts and CAPA resolution.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of the effect of how material and process selections can impact efficiencies, waste, and ultimately cost.
  • Provide timely information to assist with scheduling and shipping decisions.
  • Responsible to follow all safety procedures as required by the role, and to nurture a food safety culture by adhering to all Safe Quality Foods requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of and the ability to effectively utilize the English language.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn and apply new information regarding materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Must be able to analyze data and recommend a course of action.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage numerous tasks and projects.
  • Requires constant and critical attention to detail.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and meet tight time lines. May be required to work some overtime.
  • Ability to operate a computer with a proficiency in ArtiosCAD, Microsoft Office, and Outlook. Familiarity with Adobe Creative programs is helpful, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow implicit and explicit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate and answer questions, both written and orally, in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Must have the ability to clearly explain a complex technical concept in layman’s terms.
  • Requires any combination equivalent to graduation from High School, minimum two (2) years of College/Tech School, and/or minimum of three (3) years of related folding carton manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to talk and hear 90% of work time.
  • Standing and walking required for 25% of work time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for 20% of work time.
  • Ability to: see clearly at 20 inches or 20 feet or more; ability to identify and distinguish colors; ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while the eyes are fixed on a given point; and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
