Production Support - 1st Shift, Plant 4

Schedule:

  • 1st Shift
  • 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Monday - Friday

Pay:

  • $23.00 per hour starting pay

***Pre-employment drug test is required***

Summary:
This position is a hybrid of two (3) different positions (Ink Technician/Plate Mounter/Plate Maker) and will be assigned to the area with the most urgent business needs. Production Support will need to be proficient at adjusting inks, and assisting press operators to adjust color, mounting plates, and filing plates. Responsible for making plates, maintaining plate making equipment, supplies and the cleanliness of the plate room, and filing.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible to follow all safety procedures as required by the role, and to nurture a food safety culture by adhering to all Safe Quality Foods requirements.
  2. Mix ink using appropriate formula and match to set color standard. Amount mixed should only be enough to run job.
  3. Utilizing Ink Queue System, deliver required ink, varnish to press.
  4. Proof inks to established DE target using hand proofer and Measure Color system.
  5. Return unused ink to ink room. Dispose contaminated ink.
  6. Adjust colors on press to match set color standard.
  7. Update formulas to ensure their accuracy.
  8. Responsible for the appearance of the ink room.
  9. Ensure that the next shift presses have ink according to the schedule to reduce the amount of downtime.
  10. Assist press operators.
  11. Monitor ink room supply levels and inform appropriate Lead Ink Technician when levels are low.
  12. May produce customer drawdowns.
  13. May enter ink and vanish levels into computer and reorder low level items.
  14. Use job information to pull and mount the correct die for each job.
  15. Once dies come back from press, the magnetic cylinder is put away on the shelf.
  16. Report any damage to dies or magnetic cylinders immediately.
  17. Ensure plates are mounted accurately, according to rewind position.
  18. Ensure all plates for a job are mounted in a timely manner, according to the schedule, to keep presses running at all times.
  19. Ensure plates and cylinders are not damaged.
  20. Ensure that the next shift presses have a least one job mounted according to the schedule to reduce the amount of downtime.
  21. Wash plates from completed jobs.
  22. Peel sticky back off of cylinders.
  23. File plates according to job number.
  24. Fill alcohol, acetate and soap bottles.
  25. Ensure plate wash area and plate mounting area clean.
  26. Operate a plate making machine. Must ensure that this process does not hold up production. Incoming jobs have top priority then plate remakes.
  27. Operate a plate finishing machine; trim and scribe completed plates.
  28. Operate and maintain the still and equipment.
  29. File negatives and artwork.
  30. Reorder and restock plate room supplies.
  31. Responsible for the cleanliness of the plate room.
  32. Maintain plate making equipment.
  33. Monthly inventory of all platemaking supplies.
  34. Monthly tracking of remakes-number and type.
  35. May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  1. Ability to operate a platemaker, a plate finishing machines, a plate cutter and an electronic scriber.
  2. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  3. Ability to read, comprehend and follow simple written and oral instructions.
  4. Ability to effectively utilize (writing, speaking, reading) the English language.
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
  6. Ability to operate a computer.
  7. Requires education equivalent to two (2) years of high school.
  8. Ability to meet deadlines. May be required to work some overtime.
  9. Requires nearly constant concentration and attention to detail.
  10. Ability to: stand and walk for 90% of work time; and stoop kneel, crouch or crawl for 10% of work time.
  11. Ability to: see clearly at 20 inches or less; observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point; judge distances and spatial relationships; and to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
  12. Ability to: use hands for 100% of work time (i.e. mixing inks, mounting plates etc.); and reach above shoulders for 25% of work time (i.e. placing containers of ink on to and off of shelves, filing plates, approximately 6 ft.).
  13. Ability to lift: 10 pounds or less 25% of work time; 25 pounds or less 30% of work time; 50 pounds or less 35% of work time; and 100 pounds or less 10% of work time. (Example: placing containers of ink on to and off of shelves, placing cylinders on to and off of shelves, approximately 6 ft.).
